Lees verder.

Dinsdag lanceerde Apple haar nieuwe muziek-app, Apple Music.

When Jay Z acquired Aspiro for $56.2 million in March, it was nothing more than a side note on the business section of Billboard and various tech-blogs. But when Jay Z lined up his celebrity all star team to mark the re-launch of TIDAL, things changed. With the support of at least one big artist in every genre, it became more than “Spotify, but with hifi audio”. Is TIDAL just a hype or is it worth your money?

On February, 24th, Big Sean will drop his third solo album Dark Sky Paradise. Big Sean used to be a punchline in rap. But he’s slowly rapping, dating and featuring his way to the top. He’ll never be Kendrick or Eminem, but he could be the next LL Cool J.

James Bond is not a white man. Yes, he’s only been portrayed by white men, but he is not white. He’s a secret agent who looks good no matter the circumstances. He gets the girls -it doesn’t matter if they’re good or bad- and saves the world, multiple times. He’s charismatic, drinks shaken-not-stirred Martinis and lives the life most men aspire to. Bond, currently portrayed by Daniel Craig, is many things, but the color of his skin is not one of his defining traits. All of which is a very long way of saying “Idris Elba should be the next James Bond”.

It’s fun to look back at everything that has happened this year. The time between Christmas and New Years Eve is a perfect opportunity for reflection and closure. I already did that here and as much as it is fun to think about the past, it’s even more fun to fantazise about the future. Who’s going to have the hottest album? Which underground artist will have his or her break-out year? Can men make a comeback into the pop culture conversation? Of course, it’s impossible to know and the best things are often suprises -see: D’Angelo, Beyoncé- but that’s part of the fun. Let’s take a look at what we can expect in 2015.

There’s a certain risk in publishing end-of-year lists before said year is over. I did it last year and, reading back, I look like a complete idiot. Last year, Beyoncé dropped an album so unexpectedly, she messed up a whole bunch of lists, not just mine. D’Angelo just managed to repeat that trick, but this year I’m not going to fall for it. A lot has happened this past 365 days, here’s one last look back at 2014.

You probably know him from the smash-hit Pump It Up. Or, if you’re into R&B, you’ve heard him on Marques Houston’s Clubbin’. Or Whatever U Want with Christina Milian. When you’re someone who can’t get enough of reality TV, and these people exist, you could have caught a glimpse of the guy on Love & Hip Hop. You probably don’t know him from his emotional songs. But Joe Budden is the most emo-rapper in the game. No, not even Drake can compete with Budden’s deep, dark story-telling tracks.
