Drummer, DJ, teacher and producer Questlove can now add another working experience to his already rich résumé: writer. Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson will release his memoirs through Grand Central Publishing under the name of Mo’ Meta Blues: The World According to Questlove.
According to the press-release Mo’ Meta Blues is “a punch-drunk memoir in which Everyone’s Favorite Questlove tells his own story while tackling some of the lates, the greats, the fakes, the philosophers, the heavyweights, and the true originals of the music world”. Those lates, greats, fakes, philosophers, heavyweights and originals are artists as Prince, KISS, Jay-Z, D’Angelo, Stevie Wonder and Dave Chapelle. The autobiography is co-written by Ben Greenman and tells Questlove’s story from growing up in West Philly to the rising of The Roots. All this sounds amazing. Too good to be true, right? Yes, even in the press-release, there’s a but:
“But Mo’ Meta Blues isn’t just a memoir.”
What is it then? The answer is more confusing than anything in the world:
“It’s a dialogue about the nature of memoir. It’s a book that questions what a book like Mo’ Meta Blues really is. It’s a record that keeps going around and around.”
Unfortunately, we have to wait until June, 18th for the memoir-that-isn’t-really-a-memoir to hit the shelves. Just look at the gorgeous cover till then:
